DOCUMENT
AND INFORMATION CENTER
A great number of drug-related
virtual centers, digital libraries, Internet portals and
Web pages have emerged at the onset of the XXI century to
meet the needs of policy makers and researchers of a better
database to contribute to the establishment and implementation
of nationwide, regional, and global policies to reduce drug
demand.Access to accurate, timely, updated and adequate
information on all drug issues is an important factor that
contributes in a decisive manner to the development of better
programs to discourage people (especially youths) from becoming
involved in drug abuse, retail sale and drug trafficking.Since
its inception, CEDRO´s Documentation Center is dedicated
to provide specialized information on different drug issues,
and has gradually extended its services as a result of the
increasing demand for additional and more accurate information;
basically owing to the population's growing awareness of
drugs as one of the most serious problems of the country. The
Documentation and Information Center provides access to
databases of conventional documents (books, magazine articles,
reports, projects, research studies, etc.) and non-conventional
documents (videos, CD-ROMs) to diverse population groups
including school children, professionals, university students,
researchers, Arm Forces and Police officers, and the public
in general. While technological innovation creates new scenarios
for the exchange of ideas and products based on information
and knowledge, which are critical factors to incorporate
the country to these new technologies, CEDRO´s Documentation
and Information Center has a qualified professional team
with experience on virtual, electronic and digital data
base management, and a great sense of cooperation and support
to the informational needs of its users. Within this context,
the Documentation and Information Center is receiving more
and more requests from needy sectors of society not having
access to information. Thus, CEDRO is promoting the establishment
of information centers and youth facilities in the popular
sectors, in order to expand the information coverage and
reach more and diverse people, which may be isolated and
at greater risk of using drugs. Objectives
